Newcomers and seasoned users of precision agriculture systems are well placed to advance their operation with the FM-1000 Integrated Touch Screen Display, part of the Case IH range of Advanced Farming System (AFS) products. For a limited time discounted upgrades to the FM-1000 are being offered to those wishing to upgrade from the previous model Field Manager Display (FMD) and selected competitor model steering systems.
The FM-1000 is the most advanced aftermarket precision ag product featuring a large touch screen colour display and simple functionality to ensure ease of use. Using the FM-1000, farmers can undertake a wide range of tasks from choosing the right level of auto-steering, to monitoring implements such as seeding bin metering systems through up to four external cameras.
"The FM-1000 is the first product that allows operators to choose a steering system to suit their individual operation, while still having the capability to do everything a standalone precision ag system can do such as field coverage mapping and variable rate seeding," explained Ross Johansson, Brand Manager, AFS Precision Farming and Guidance.
"Farmers can choose from a range of steering options including manual guidance, assisted steering and full autopilot whereby the tractor virtually steers itself. The FM-1000 is also Real Time Kinetic (RTK) compatible to provide steering accuracy to within 2cm which is ideal for farmers working in tramlining or controlled traffic environments." A range of seven steering patterns are available from curves to spirals and industry exclusive free-form steering. "Essentially, this means operators can set the system to work in virtually any field condition, regardless of obstacles or unique field conditions," Ross explained.
The FM-1000 contains two GPS receivers which give farmers greater choice when it comes to steering both the tractor and implement. "The first GPS receiver controls the tractor's steering, while the second controls the implement steering path," Ross explained. "With two GPS receivers, operators can monitor the individual path of the tractor and implement. If they find the implement is steering along a different path due to field conditions or skew for example, using the FM-1000 they can program the system to steer the tractor off-line and maintain the implement only on the set guidance path. There is also the option to set the steering to keep both the tractor and implement on the guidance path, which is ideal for applications requiring a high degree of steering accuracy."
In addition, the design of the GPS receiver on the FM-1000 enables it to pick up a broader range of satellite networks known as the Global Navigation Satellite System, thereby reducing the chance of signal dropout. "Signal drop out can be caused by a range of different interferences including solar flares which are forecast to increase in coming years. Solar flares are caused by explosions in the sun's atmosphere and have the ability to interrupt GPS signals. With the
FM-1000s ability to access a greater range of satellites, the risk of potential signal drop out is minimised, allowing farmers to keep on farming, accurately and reliably, with reduced down-time.
The FM-1000 is also interchangeable between equipment and can be used across a broad range of equipment platforms, allowing farmers to maximise their investment in the technology.
Until 15 December 2009, Case IH is offering trade-ins on its previous model FMD and on selected competitors' model steering systems. "The upgrade provides access to the latest in technology at a discounted cost," Ross said. Coupled with this, Case IH is offering 9-months interest free on all Case IH Advanced Farming Systems products, including the FM-1000 until 30 November. "So whether you've been using a selected competitor's model steering system or the FMD, it's the perfect time to visit your local Case IH dealer and upgrade to the most advanced precision ag aftermarket product available," Ross said.
